Dear Colleagues,

The Indian Orthopaedic Research Group takes great pleasure in announcing the Second IORG Certificate Course in Research Methodology. This will be a Basic Course on Thesis writing and Journal Publication to be held in City of Hyderabad on 25^th March 2012.

The members of IORG Core Committee and Orthopaedic Surgeons experienced in Research and research methodology will be speaking on various topics starting from basics of thesis selection and execution to conversion of thesis into a successful Journal Publication.

This will be a unique workshop for Post graduate residents where they can learn the basic requirements of their thesis and also principles of Journal publication. The course will also include an hour long session on discussion on thesis of the participants. To facilitate adequate individual interaction with participants we have limited the number of registration for the course to only 50 delegates.

The IORG Basic Research Course in Thesis Writing and Journal Publication aims at providing:

• Vital research principles & tools to students to perform a scientific research & write a quality thesis.
• Complete information regarding the standard university format with guidelines on selection of a thesis topic
• Step by step guidance through detailed sessions for critical aspects of thesis including introduction, review of literature, material methods, results and discussion.
• A brief overview of essential knowledge of statistics
• Guidelines for creating a Journal manuscript from thesis and getting it published
• A unique opportunity to discuss the thesis of every participant and get individual queries resolved under expert guidance by working in small groups

In recent times, we have seen very poor attendance at scientific sessions in conferences. Through IORG we will be able to inform our members regarding presenation by another IORG member and this will in turn increase the attendance at scientific sessions. Osteobiologic adjuvants that substitute in bone graft have recently been popularized. Hydroxyapatite and Tricalcium phosphate are two commonly used substitutes. Demineralised bone matrix and BMP are also used for bone regeneration. The basis of bone formation in these has been studied.Various growth factors (IGF, Platelet like growth factors etc) have come into picture now. Mesenchymal stem cells are the latest biological to aid bone formation. We have used MSCs to treat nonunions. Dr. SC Goel is Professor of Orthopaedics at Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU, Varanasi. He has been active in basic research in field of bone substitutes and implant failure. He has received various awards including IOA Silver Jubillee Commamoration Lecture and BOS Best Treatise award and delivered many orations. He has been Editor of Indian Journal of Orthopaedics and President of Indian Orthopaedic Association. He has been awarded Girdlestone Scholarship of Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford University, UK and IOA – INOR Foreign Fellowship of Indian Orthopaedic Association, UK.
